Stripes!  Claudette’s cake is not for the faint hearted.  It has taken me about 2 and a half hours to make but I have to say, it is BEAUTIFUL!  It’s a perfect cake to make at Easter as it is all yellow and lemony.  I have decorated it with mini chocolate eggs.   There is a picture of my cake in all its splendour here.

I am taking it down to the Audio Gold boys.  I wanted to make them a cake last Saturday as it was Independent Record Shop Day but alas, other things got in the way.  Today is dedicated to testing Silver Screen Suppers recipes though and I also have a chicken soup in the slow cooker for the long postponed, much dreaded, but very timely (it is Passover) Groucho Marx Matzo Balls.  Will report back once I have finished procrastinating…

Ooh, I had an outfit a bit like that on Second Life.  Been so long since I went there though I’ll have forgotten how to do everything I’m sure.  I did enjoy meditating by the fountains with doves flying around though.  Oh and I did like my little witches’ familiar – a little owl with a monocle.  Anyhow, I’m too busy with Silver Screen Suppers stuff to spend any time in a fantasy world these days.  It’s non stop!

It was my desk-mate’s birthday today so I made him a CC Cake.  Man, it comes out different every time.  There was a comedy moment where the lettering of JIM in pink pearly edible beads started sliding off the cake – less milk in the frosting next time!  It was Rita’s Angel Food Cake recipe – at which I am improving – dolled up with Cladette’s Lemon Curd filling and lemony frosting.  I did make a classic schoolgirl error though – in my defence it was at about 6.30am – I put the cake in the oven and when I went to check on it about 1/2 an hour later realised that I’d put the GRILL on rather than the oven.  Doh!  I think I rescued it OK though.

I’m getting back into the writing since I got myself Scrivener – ooh what a wonderful thing it is for organising all the biographies and recipes for the Silver Screen Suppers book.  Hope it isn’t just procrastination though…

I’ve been putting off testing this as it looked like a bit of a challenge. It was, but it was worth it! Basically I made a Rita Hayworth’s Angel Cake then followed Claudette’s instructions for fancifying it with home made lemon curd filling and lemony frosting. Oh YUMSKI as my French colleague Marie-Agathe put it.

We’ve had a lovely redhead rockabilly girl working with us for a couple of months and she’s such a peach I decided to make the cake for her last day. What a success it was. Everyone piled up to the mezzanine waiting for their slice – it was gone in a flash! I decorated it with little pink sprinkles and some mini eggs to make it look Eastery. A BIG success!

And by the way, I hereby award test cook Miss Dorothy an internet MEDAL for making this for an event at the Cinema Museum. It is the most time consuming cake I have ever made so bravo Ms D over there at the British Film Institute.
