Until recently, these were the house cocktail here at Silver Screen Suppers Towers.  I had quite a few of these over the festive season before the Bourbon ran out.  They are so good, they make you go a bit berserk.  Two maximum I would suggest.

I’ve worked out the perfect way of making them chez moi.  I have a fab cocktail measure that always makes me laugh as the BIG end is for “friends” and the LITTLE end is for “relations”.

So here’s a note to self and anyone else who has a similar measure: one friends and one relations measure of Bourbon, one relations measure of apricot brandy.  Ice in the cocktail shaker and a little twist of lemon in the glass.  Or if you prefer the official measurements:

1 12 oz Jim Beam Black Bourbon
12 oz Apricot brandy (Marie Brizard Apry)

Is it a cocktail if it only has two types of booze in it?  Or is it a mixed drink?

Cue for a Marlene Dietrich quote from her marvellously bonkers book ABC…

“MIXED DRINKS – Bad for you, and trouble for the barkeep.”

Plus here’s a quote from Mr R after taking a sip of a Hedda Hopper Cocktail: “I can feel that already, sneaking around my kidneys…”

Greg Swensen wrote a brilliant article about Hedda, her hats, and this cocktail so if you want to know more, skip over to Recipes For Rebels and read all about it – Hats Off To Hedda

All the Bourbon is now gone.  And in the spirit of my current motto: “use it up and wear it out,” I am going to find a few more movie related cocktails to focus on for the rest of 2017.  What a fun bit of research!  I’ve just done a stocktake of my booze.  Here’s what I have in the cocktail cabinet…
