Angela Lansbury’s Mustard Vinaigrette

You know how satisfying it is when you find the right tool for the job? And how the smallest thing can give you an immense amount of pleasure in these strange lockdowned times? Here’s a tiny tale of one such thing.

This is a beautiful bottle of delicious vinaigrette. This makes my heart burst with joy for the following reasons:

  • The vinaigrette is based on Angela Lansbury’s own recipe from the fabulous Positive Moves book
  • I think I have finally cracked the correct proportions after making it a few times
  • I have decided to ALWAYS keep my salad dressings in this beautiful bottle, which used to contain fabulous gin from our honeymoon spot, Aldeburgh. It will remind me of that mad couple of days rattling around in a huge hotel when the world was closing down around us due to the pandemic.

I have always thought I can’t make salad dressings. What kind of mad thinking is that? I just couldn’t keep the proportions of vinegar to oil in my tiny little mind. I will set myself a pretty simple goal – I will perfect this recipe. When all of this craziness is over and I come round your house, point me towards the oil, vinegar, mustard, pepper and garlic and I will make you a delicious vinaigrette!

This is Angela’s recipe but BEWARE, I strongly believe that there’s a typo in this recipe. I think it should read 2 & 1/2 TABLESPOONS of vinegar rather than 2 & 1/2 TEASPOONS.
