Greetings lovely readers!  My Murder, She Cooked cookalong party on Sunday the 2nd of October is now live on Eventbrite.

Everyone is welcome to come along and cook with me, or just be there for the chat about all things Murder, She Wrote while the cakes are in the oven. I am not sure if there is a limit on how many people I can have at this zoom cookalong so if you would like to come, please do skip over here and click the REGISTER button to grab a ticket – it’s absolutely free – tell your chums too.

Cameras on, or cameras off, cooking along or just watching, everything is tickety-boo with me. It will just be lovely to have the company of Murder, She Wrote fans, test cooks and chums while I make a cake!  One lucky party attendee will win a copy of the book too, complete with a fancy bookmark, sent out from right here in Silver Screen Suppers Towers wherever in the whole wide world the winner might be.

We will kick off at 7 and I’ll demonstrate how to make an Angela Lansbury Date and Walnut Cake (skip to the bottom of this post for the shopping list).

I’ll go slowly so everyone has a chance to get theirs in the oven at the same time. I’ll also demonstrate the Jessica Fletcher Tangerine Twist cocktail (ingredients listed at the bottom of this post – alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions are both available).

Then we’ll have time for a bit of a chat.  I will be GIDDY WITH EXCITEMENT as the cookalong is a couple of days after the official book launch day – 30th September.

Expect lots of posts on social media on that day as I have another go at Living My Life Like Angela Lansbury!

Freeform dancing and a vigorous exercise routine will be involved…

There’s another chance to win a copy of the book here.

This competition is running until book launch day – 30th September.  I’ll be drawing the winner’s name out of a hat at the cookalong. Maybe one like this…

I am beyond excited about the book coming out on the 30th – only a WEEK AWAY. I am secretly stupidly proud of it.

RIGHT, here’s the shopping list!  Amounts you’ll need underneath this pic!  Dates are as follows:

Friday September 30th – book launch day.

Sunday October 2nd – cookalong party.

Saturday October 8th – book launch party in London – if you’d like to come, just drop me a line via the contact page and I’ll send all the details.  The more the merrier.

For the Angela Lansbury Date and Walnut Cake you will need

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda/bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 cup/135g chopped pitted dates
  • ⅔ cup/100g walnut pieces
  • 1 cup/200g granulated sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1¾ cups/230g unbleached all-purpose/plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Strawberry cream cheese, optional*

You will also need a heatproof mixing bowl (you’ll be adding boiling water so not glass) and a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan or something of similar dimensions.

* If you can’t get strawberry cream cheese where you are, there are lots of recipes online – it’s just strawberries, cream cheese and powdered sugar/icing sugar whizzed up together. It’s mad but good!

For non US based cooks please note, you will need bicarbonate of soda rather than baking powder.

For the Jessica Fletcher’s Tangerine Twist Cocktail

  • Fizz – champagne, prosecco, cava or crémant
  • Tangerine, mandarin or orange juice
  • ¼ teaspoon grenadine
  • Peche de Vigne or apricot brandy
  • Orange bitters (optional)
  • Maraschino cherries or a cocktail umbrella to garnish

OR for a non-alcholic version

Jessica Fletcher’s Chained to the Typewriter Mocktail

  • Alcohol-free sparkling wine or sparkling water
  • Tangerine, mandarin or orange juice
  • ¼ teaspoon grenadine
  • Orange bitters (optional)
  • Maraschino cherries or a cocktail umbrella to garnish

You’ll also need ice and a nice glass, preferably a tall champagne flute, but anything will do!

LOOKING FORWARD TO PARTYING WITH YOU ALL, JESSICA FLETCHER STYLE!
