Happy 19th Birthday Silver Screen Suppers!

My goodness. I can’t quite believe that I have been writing about movie stars and their favourite recipes for NINETEEN YEARS TODAY. That’s crazy! When I started I was living on a houseboat and this was my kitchen.

I was nursing a broken heart and decided to learn to cook by trying to make the things that my movie star idols told magazine and newspaper journalists they liked to eat.  A couple of thousand movie star meals later MUCH has changed. Here’s my current kitchen – spacious is an understatement!  In a strange turn of events, I’m looking after this house for someone who is now living on a houseboat…

Plus I am happily hitched to the man of my dreams.  Good things come to those who wait…

I thought about what I could do to celebrate my 19th birthday.

Dorothy Lamour and I share a birthday…

My first thought was that I could recreate the first movie star recipe I ever tried and wrote about way back in 2006 – Bette Davis’ Boston Baked Beans.

But as I’m home alone for a week or so, and there is zero space in my freezer I knew that I’d never be able to eat a whole batch of these by myself, delicious though they are.

I COULD have launched my Bette Davis recipe fanzine upon the world, but it’s not quite ready yet.  Here’s a sneaky peek for you all though…

It was loads of fun to make but it needs some fiddling around with…

Luckily for me though, my chum Thom Kofoed popped up in my inbox recently announcing that he’d done a new set of paintings called CELEBRITIES DRINKING COFFEE – and look who is in there…

So instead of making the beans, I bought myself a painting!  Once I have it in my house I’ll take a pic to show you.  Bette will be sitting just above Angela Lansbury, as this one of Thom’s is mine too!

Here’s a link to Thom’s online shop there are LOADS of amazing goodies there.

So today, my big blogging birthday, I’d like to thank everyone who drops by and reads my ramblings.  If you like what I do, the best way to keep the beans bubbling is to buy a book or subscribe to one of my newsletters – see below. I am going to have to think long and hard about what I do to celebrate TWENTY years of blogging next year.  Any ideas?  Lemme know!

  1. Congratulations, and thanks for your delightful site. I think I have two of your books! I live alone but have endeavored to make some of the recipes with varying degrees of success.

  3. Congratulations! I love your site and hope you’ll be going for another 19 years!

Not sure what to do about 20 years. Maybe a recipe from a star in a movie with 20 in the title, like 20 Million Miles from Earth?

    1. Aww, bless you A! Another 19 years eh? Goodness me! I like your idea of 20 Million Miles from Earth or something else with 20 in the title. I’ll check my spreadsheet to see if I have recipes from any of the stars. Thanks for your kind words, it means a lot!
