For the forthcoming Cooking the Detectives book I’m trying to work on one sleuth per week. Last week it was KOJAK!
I’m writing a guide to a “taster episode” for each show and there will be a recipe from the kitchen of the actor who plays the main character (or characters in the case of Starsky & Hutch, McMillan and Wife, Cagney & Lacey etc.). I’ve chosen Telly’s Spanakopita for the book and I tested the recipe way back in January.
Telly’s spanakopita was soooooo good. Strictly speaking it is spanakotiropita I think, because of the inclusion of cheese. Highly recommended! I made a 1/4 of the recipe and there were 3 large portions so I would say Telly’s recipe would serve 12 – do you have a pan big enough for the whole thing? I don’t!
Chatting with my writer friend Lisa of The Hearing Coach about Telly last week has set in motion a new idea… I’ve just worked out that October this year will mark the 50th anniversary of the first episode of Kojak being broadcast. I am planning to launch a KOJAK APPRECIATION DAY! Watch this space chums because there will be a competition involving lollipops!
Here’s Telly’s recipe, courtesy of Mrs Telly.
That looks so good!
This week I am listening to Sam Spade radio episodes for food mentions – mostly he just drinks. So far there has been one mention of an apple, and that’s it!
Love it! He’s like Ariadne Oliver in Poirot. She’s an apple head too…
