Book Test Cook 27 – Diana Dors’ Easy Fruit Cake

Oh the shame of it, like a stake through the heart.  The judges at the Muswell Hill Horticultural Society Spring Show thought my fruit cake was “very tasty but just a little dry”.  Oof!  This post is therefore a note to self about what might have caused this.  For the recipe is destined for the book and I want it to work perfectly. I will need to try it again…

I am a terrible hoarder and am currently like one of those folks you see on TV who have to crawl through small holes in their clutter to get to their beds.  I am gradually trying to get more organised and actually throw some stuff away but until then I have around 1 million boxes and bags containing small pieces of paper with scribbled notes I have made when test cooking recipes for the Silver Screen Suppers book.  I have recently realised that this blog is the place to record these things so that I can find them again. There is no hope for me otherwise.  Last time I won second prize with this cake…

So for the record:   Second time around I baked the cake at **** degrees for ** minutes – of course, I can’t find the piece of paper that I wrote these details down upon, so will come back when I do.  Maybe I’m a hopeless case?

If I spent as much time sorting out my clutter as I do READING about how to sort out my clutter I might actually get there…

I’m thinking that maybe what might have happened to Diana’s cake this time is perhaps I let the fruit boil for a little too long.  I will keep an eye on that next time.  I’ll also bake it at a higher temperature for a shorter amount of time.  I will report back…   Right now, I am waiting for judgment on my entries at the Muswell Hill Horticultural Society SUMMER show, that’s how behind I am with my writing up of stuff – a whole season…

However, I hear from the Guardian that blogging is dead anyhow… so I shall cease to worry about it!
