My new favourite cocktail? Yes. This was utterly divine. The jalapeño flavour got more pronounced the more I drank, and the closer my schnozzle was to the wheel on the glass – ha ha!

Here’s an article about the creation of this cocktail  – respect is due to Jonathan Humphrey who invented this dream of a tipple.  I love it!  As I can’t find a recipe for the divine Faye for the Cooking With Columbo cookbook, this will be suggested as an accompaniment to the episode she is in, It’s All In The Game.  This cocktail is definitely something I can imagine her character Lauren Staton sipping whilst perched on a bar stool flirting with the Lieutenant.

I used my lovely Bitter Union orange bitters, as purchased from my beloved Prohibition Wines in Muswell Hill.

There are many things I love about Prohibition Wines.  One is the fact that they run competitions in their newsletters.  I’ve mentioned here before that my mum went through a phase of entering many, many, many competitions and I still have the Maxwell House coffee set she won in the 1970s…

So this week I entered a Prohibition Wines competition to win an out of date bottle of Brewheadz Rye IPA.  The phrase, “She’d go to the opening of an envelope” springs to mind here…  An email to let me know I had won the competition read simply: “There’s a bottle of beer here with your name on it.” and it tickled me pink when I went to pick it up to see that this was indeed a fact!

Thank you, Mr and Mrs Prohibition.  I shall savour my prize at some point soon (particularly as it is out of date).  

So here’s the recipe you’ve been waiting for – The Faye Dunaway – as appearing in The Globe and Mail, Toronto.

INGREDIENTS

1 1/2 ounces vodka

1 1/4 ounces fresh mango juice

3/4 ounces lime juice

1/2 ounces agave syrup

3 jalapeno wheels (two in the shaker, one for garnish, seeds removed if desired)

2 dashes Regans’ Orange Bitters

METHOD

To make the Faye, simply muddle the ingredients listed here in a cocktail shaker, shake vigorously and strain into a classic coupette. Garnish with the remaining jalapeno slice and prepare for your close-up.
