Jan Smithers’ Mixed Grain Brown Bread

It’s Real Bread Week here in the UK

and on Saturday I rustled up a loaf to Jan’s recipe.

This recipe marks the start of me testing for the Murder, She Cooked book

and is up for grabs over at the Murder, She Wrote Cookalong page.

I’ve been thrilled about how many people have signed up and it is open to absolutely everyone. Join in, you know you want to!

I think someone who is a super-taster would say that Jan’s bread is “molasses forward”. I would just say, this REALLY tastes of molasses. So if you don’t like molasses, this is not for you!

Toasted it was very tasty, quite a dense, cakey bread but in my opinion, ALL homemade bread is good!

As I was making Jan’s bread, I had her episode of Murder, She Wrote on the kitchen DVD player. I love Jessica’s interaction with a little kid in this episode. Everyone loves Jessica of course (except the ne’er-do-wells) but this relationship is particularly cute.

I want to drive around in a car shaped like a football helmet with Jessica!

I’m fiddling around with this recipe for the book, but if you would like it, either sign up for it over on the cookalong page, or drop me a line via the contact page and I’ll send it over to you.
