Joan’s steak was a big success with Charley.  He said something along the lines of “enormo-cheese!” when it came out of the oven which in Charley speak is a compliment to the chef.  It really was a delicious hunk of cheesy mustardy meat, I could eat another chunk of that right now!  Luckily for me, I’ve still got half of the sauce left in the fridge so I feel another hairy steak coming along sometime  soon.

Charley and I had a most companionable evening with the radiogram and jigsaw.  We made each other laugh a lot by singing along to “The Girl From Ipanema” in stupid voices and doing impersonations of David Jacobs.  Charley’s obsequious bowing and scraping when I asked him to go and get another bottle of wine and the way we banged our empty glasses on the coffee table at each other when they were empty would probably amuse nobody but us.  We are like an old married couple.  But as I said to my mum, sometime soon he’ll get a girlfriend or I’ll get a boyfriend and evenings like this may have to stop so for now we are making the most of them.
