Josephine Baker’s Spaghetti Bolognaise

Apologies, apologies.  I am very behind with sending out recipes to test cooks.  I have been running around getting ready for my housewarming and hereby PROMISE to get back on track when I am surrounded by empty beer cans and overflowing ashtrays on Saturday.  Or if it is a REAL humdinger, Sunday.  I’m going to work my way through the feedback from testers a little more frequently too once the shindig is done, there will be no social life for me for a while methinks.  As long as nobody messes up the half done jigsaw or busts my lava lamp I’ll be happy.

Now I have to admit that I haven’t had a go at Josephine’s Spaghetti recipe myself but it is receiving consistently good reports from the test cooks.  Gene in Austin, TX sent a report ages ago, and it has just floated to the top of the “to be blogged” list.  Gene modified the recipe somewhat with extra vegetables and spices and reported that it “turned out great”.  Hubby loved it.  She cooked it for longer than Josephine specified which allowed the flavours to blend better and observed that it was Josephine’s addition of red chili flakes and nutmeg that made the dish “a stand-out”.

Edmund and myself are very much looking forward to Gene and her husband coming to the UK in September.  Gene is a brilliant cook (the Goat’s Cheese Cheesecake at Ruthie’s hen party was just divine) so I’ll have to pull out the stops if they come over to dinner.  We are keeping our fingers crossed that the trip by Ruthie’s parents will co-incide so we can host a special Silver Screen Supper for them all at the Palace of Solitude.  I shall have to get a table and some chairs first though.
