Yinzerella of Dinner Is Served 1972 made a Mahogany Pie for this year’s Pieathalon and her blog post included some sensational clips of a movie I’d never seen. Mahogany starring Diana Ross. Just one look at these gifs convinced me I had to get hold of it on DVD.
I knew Mr R was a fan of the early work of Diana Ross,
so I thought I would surprise him with her eponymous cocktail before a screening of the film a couple of Fridays ago.
The cocktail was fabulous, and so was the movie BUT, naturally I fell asleep halfway through so we decided to watch the second half next day.
(Diana here wearing an outfit that would match her cocktail perfectly.)
What I’d totally forgotten was that that I haven’t seen the remote control for my DVD player for over a year and a half. Thus, films have to be watched in their entirety. There is no way of finding the place where something was abandoned. How does the story of Tracy Chambers end? I will have to track down that remote control to find out…

The Diana Ross Cocktail was created by Australian mixologist Alam Rivas, who perfected the cocktail at the Canvas Club in Brisbane, Australia. Rivas got inspired by Ross’ 1980 disco song Upside Down and followingly tributed his creation to the American singer. According to Alam Rivas the cocktail resembles an inverted Martini, heavy on the apéritif and light on the base spirit (dry gin) and the mixture is shaken for five seconds rather then stirred, making the flavors more delicate and aromatic.
I was a bit confused by the cl measurements so here are the quantities I used for 2 x Diana Ross cocktails. 50ml gin, 120ml Lillet Rose, 20ml Pêche. Yum!
That looks lovely–although there are 2 ingredients in that cocktail that I have never used.
I want that wee ice crusher!!!
As someone who will sometimes put on the Bob Ross Channel to chill and/or sleep, I am wary of the documentary. Is it too much of a bummer?
YINZ! Yes, I discovered Bob Ross via sleep stories on my Calm meditation app. Sends me off into dreamworld in about 5 minutes flat every time. I think it’s worth watching the documentary. The money grabbers will piss you off but the end result is really the feeling that everybody loved Bob. He really was as lovely as he seems.
Jenny!!!! Both of those cocktails sound divine!!! xx
They are both soooooooo good, Taryn! You being Queen of Cocktails would know!
