The Lee Tracy Cocktail and Sam H. Harris’ Cradle Snatcher Cocktail

I think we are getting close to having a critical mass of movie star cocktails tested for the Down the Hollywood Hatch book.  Me and Mr R gave this one a whirl last week and we both enjoyed it.

One of those cocktails that tastes different with every sip, the conversation went like this.

Mr R – Quite medicinal.

Me – Mmmm.  Licorice Allsorts

Mr R – Very berry. Warming and autumnal.  The cough mixture flavour goes after a couple of sips.

Me – Pruney,  Christmas puddingy.  Nice Christmas drinkie.

Bring on the festive season!

While we had the absinthe out, we decided to follow the Lee Tracy with a Cradle Snatcher (I don’t wish to imply that there is any connection between Lee Tracy and cradle snatching) from the 1933 Celebrity Cocktail Book (or the Shaker Man book as it is known here).

We liked this one even better, but unfortunately, the person who proposed this recipe wasn’t an actor, merely a producer – haha.  Here though for anyone interested in folks involved in American theatre of the era is Sam H. Harris’ formula for a Cradle Snatcher.

Basically a martini pimped up with absinthe – lovely!

Facsimile copies of this star-spangled cocktail book are available on my Etsy site.  I’ve just been on a fabulous writing retreat for a week but I am back and BRACED for Christmas present orders.  Do you know someone who would appreciate one of these dinky little books? Only 100 copies were made.

As the book is only tiny if you want to buy one in addition to one of my other books, get in touch and I can circumvent the extra postage charge.

Books packed with star-spangled recipes!
