Oooh, this was GOOD! Proper old fashioned fodder with no fancy herbs and spices. Just a hearty amount of vegetables and super succulent lamb chops after two and a half hours in the oven. Perfect for a Saturday evening in lockdown.

In the Cop’s Cookbook the title of Mike’s dish is actually Mannix’s Lamb Chop Hot Pot. Mike Conners’ most famous role was as the “macho sleuth” Joe Mannix.

I’ve never seen Mannix but now I know he’s a macho sleuth I am getting me some on DVD.

After tasting this dish Mr R immediately announced, “Winner, winner Mannix dinner”. I agreed, this is a goodie.

It’s something you can put together after lunch and go off and do something else while it is cooking. Like listen to the Mannix soundtrack perhaps, which Mr R has in his collection and tells me is very good. He’s promised to bring it over sometime.

This is DEFINITELY going in the Murder, She Cooked book. I’ve been doing quite a bit of work on the book during lockdown. I’m getting up at the same time as I would if I was commuting in to Camden Town so have about an hour to write before work each weekday. It’s coming along! If you fancy test cooking something for me it would be most appreciated. A list of recipes up for grabs can be found here.

Here’s Mike’s recipe. I used fresh mushrooms rather than canned but other than that, followed the recipe exactly. Simple but good. Reminded me a bit of a recipe I used to make a lot – Marlene Dietrich’s Lamb Chops en Casserole. I see from previous posts that I’ve never actually put the recipe up on the blog. I feel another cooking of that dish coming on…
