QUARANTINI TIME #9 – Don Ameche’s Bourbon

Don Ameche was a man’s man and didn’t have any truck with mixed drinks. He liked his bourbon straight up and with no nonsense about a chaser. Here we raise a glass to him and get excited about next week’s BUZZ-BOMB cocktail.

Mind you, looks like he enjoyed a cold beer now and then too…

  1. I am sooooo thirsty now . I love Woodford R. That and Maker’s Mark. Although I made the Old Fashioned’s with Wild Turkey as Tesco had it down from £30 to £18 ! I admire Don’s aplomb with the stuff, but as I am also sophisticated I know it is acceptable to put a rock of ice in there or a dash of branch water to bring out the flavour a little more . Just don’t put Pepsi in it !!! like ‘the kids’ do . Don also did some great Radio work as compere on The Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy Show often feat. W.C. Fields and an early sit-com ‘Life With The Bickersons’ .

    1. I had to look up “branch water” – fabulous! I didn’t know about Don’s radio work. Would you fancy doing a little collaborartion? If you could find one of Don’s radio shows online, we could cook a Don Ameche dish on the same night, listening to the same show? Could be fun! Jx

  5. That Buzz-Bomb was lethal! I will be in touch via the email about a joint “Tune-in and a Movie” session. I’ll send you a list of Don and W.C.’s recipes and we can select something. Ace!
