Behold the splendor of this Angel Cake made to Rita’s recipe by Evanio Alves in Rio de Janeiro! I’m so thrilled to have a reader in Ipanema, and he test cooks for me too! I’m so jealous of his cake, mine never looks like this…. I’m thinking I should buy a proper metal tube pan, perhaps it is my silicone moulds that are causing the problem. Evanio said that the cake was wonderful, unlike anything he’d ever eaten before. Makes me want to make one right now…
I fear I have rather neglected the Silver Screen Suppers blog lately, there’s been so much going on over at the Vincentennial Cookblog. But I’m going to try and get back into cooking the recipes of stars other than Vincent over the next few weeks, not least because I’m planning to do a Silver Screen Suppers APP. Yes, how modern! Probably 52 recipes, all different to those planned for the print book. So lots of testing ahead…
Welcome back! An app sounds lovely.
Ah hello my lovely! Yes, I’m excited about the app – lots of work ahead but should be fun. Jx
An app is so exciting! I wouldn’t even know where to begin as far as developing one–I’m totally impressed.
I have one of those tube pans and I think I’ve used it…once. Paul loves Angel Food Cake, but I always think “eh,” but maybe if it’s Rita Hayworth’s recipe…?
Luckily for me, my friend Lucy’s husband is king of apps. Well, I think he has done about 4. He’s a personal trainer and he sends all his stuff to a man in Singapore who does some magic and back comes an app. I’ll keep you posted!
Rita’s cake is very good – when it works! Really marshmallow-y. I’ve tried it a few times with varying success. Usually what happens is it rises, the top goes all crispy and then the rest of the cake falls down in the pan. But I’m using a silicone one so I really want to try it with a metal one. I like Gloria Swanson’s Devil’s Food Cake better personally but again, sometimes it works, sometimes not. I will have to experiment with the that one too.
