I am back from my holiday where I have to admit, I ate like a piglet. There was so much amazing food including slip sole at my favourite restaurant in the whole wide world – The Sportsman in Seasalter.

Top Cat!

Also, a new discovery and possibly already now my SECOND favourite restaurant in the whole wide world, The Four Fathoms in Herne Bay. What a HOOT. Genuinely delicious food served with loads of humour and panache. Check this out.

His Majesty the Scotch Egg!

No, I did not take my Guy Chester Cup won for most points in the Muswell Hill and District Horticultural Society Spring Show cookery classes on holiday with me!

Just a co-incidence!

There was also much hanging out at one of my favourite pubs in the whole wide world, The Duke of Cumberland in Whitstable

and fresh mackerel from Whitstable Harbour.

What an amazing 4 days.

Mr R selected the movie star recipe to go with our fishies from the Robert Quarry book

and I found a lovely 1940s cookbook (reprinted many times since the 1920s)

in our fabulous holiday hideaway, Harbour Cottage that had a good looking recipe for baked mackerel.

So the mackerel were cooked to this recipe with vinegar and mustard (they were LOVELY) and our new potatoes from the fabulous Whitstable greengrocers were cooked with garlic and spring onion.

Here’s Robert’s recipe…

We also tried WHITE sprouting broccoli for the first time and were both of the opinion that it tasted just like cauliflower.

I took most of the leaves off and fried those up with some garlic. Oh, we had prawns from the harbour as a starter too – flash-fried with garlic and paprika and served with a local beer from Turnstone Ales.

It was a perfect seaside dinner and I was pleased to discover that although I haven’t made a fire since I lived on the houseboat…

No make-up! The horror!

I still got the skillz..

If you fancy a little break away on the Kent coast I can definitely put you in touch with Polly. Her little cottage is so cosy and sweet. It is the fourth time we have stayed there and we are going back for sure.

Here is our delicious fishy dinner – why I thought we could eat two mackerel each is anyone’s guess…

The potatoes were very tasty. I am very pleased that Mr. Quarry continues to redeem himself after the horror show of his Beer and Cheese Soup…

His Texas Potato Salad is a firm favourite at Silver Screen Suppers Towers and his Baked Chicken Vera was good too.

More to come soon from his cookbook I am sure…
