Theodore Bikel’s Glorified Meatloaf

Once a month I participate in a Columbo tweet-along, it is a blast.  Folks all around the world press “play” at the same time, for the same episode, and the tweeting madness begins, all viewable via the #ColumboTV hashtaggery.  This Saturday we all watched The Bye Bye Sky High Murder Case episode.  The villain of the piece is played by Theodore Bikel, so I figured it would be a good excuse to rustle up his divine Glorified Meatloaf.

What makes this meatloaf glorified?  The raisins I’m guessing…

Ooh it was good.  It is sooooooo simple to make, mmmmmmmmmeatloaf!

This one will definitely make it into the Columbo cookbook. Talking of which, I am looking for test cooks, so if you fancy trying out a recipe by Peter Falk or one of his co-stars  just let me know via a comment or by getting in touch via my Contact page…

Theodore Bikel’s Glorified Meat Loaf

2 lbs chopped meat

1 green pepper, cut into small pieces

dehydrated onions, amounting to one or two onions, depending upon one’s taste [I used a 40g packet]

1 cup red table wine

1 cup raisins

1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon garlic salt

1 teaspoon seasoning salt [I used Joan Crawford’s fave – Lawrey’s Seasoned Salt]

1 egg

Form into loaf, then bake in moderate 325 degrees oven [160 degrees C, gas mark 3] for 45 minutes to one hour.

Thanks Theodore, your meatloaf is ACE.
