Vincent Price’s Cottage Fried Potatoes

Potatoes fried in a large amount of butter are going to be good aren’t they?  This is not clickbait to tease you into reading a disaster story about how potatoes fried in a large amount of butter turned out NOT to be good. Because they definitely were good (it is a Vincent Price recipe after all).  In fact, they were very, very good.

They were so good in fact that although I thought this batch of potatoes would be an accompaniment to two weeknight meals, but once I started eating them I couldn’t stop.  I ate them all in one go.  The whole plateful.

What a greedy guts lockdown life has made me!

Highly recommended fried potatoes!  I couldn’t find Idaho potatoes here in the UK but the Ocado machine informed me that russets would be a good substitution and they were utterly delicious.

  1. Oh my mouth is so watering now . I want some right now and it’s only 9.30 . But these would also be perfect as a lid to Nicol’s Stovie Mince Pie ! My Mum used to put a layer like this on the top of a Lamb Hot Pot cooked in the oven . There was nothing like cutting through those crunchy fried spuds on top !!

  2. COR! I want some now too, and it’s only 8.50. Yes, good I deal about the Stovie Mince Pie. Now you have mentioned that, I want that too! Mmmm Lamb Hot Pot. Even though it is Spring, I still hanker after all that comfort food stuff.

  3. To make it appropriate for breakfast (or anytime, really: fry an egg and place on top and maybe sprinkle on some bacon bits? That’s what I’m gonna do!
