When the boss’s birthday is in the same week as Yul Brynner’s

NOT QUITE A BIRTHDAY CAKE, BUT ALMOST

it’s a no brainer where to look for a cake recipe…

This was a GREAT CAKE as it is very easy to make and I loved the suggestion of bunging fresh cream and fruit on the top, thus saving the effort of making buttercream or any other frosting. As I am the laziest woman alive, I went for the squirty cream option…

With a few raspberries on top, I thought it looked very fetching. Here’s my work colleague Anne as we are just about to storm Alan’s office.

It was my suggestion to get him a copy of my chum Dave’s book. It’s very funny…

Yul’s cake was a bit like a big brownie, very rich but delicious. Didn’t taste too almondy (not that I would have minded that) but maybe next time I would add the optional almond liqueur to the cream.

Tops!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
