Mmm – these were super tasty. We weren’t sure about them at first, but Battenburg Belle eventually declared that they grew on her…
I made the meatball mixture WEEKS ago when we decided to introduce my god-daughter (aged 15 when we made these, just turned 16) to the wonders of Moonstruck…
Me and BB had been getting exasperated head shakes from her on a regular basis, on the many occasions we tried to re-enact the following scene from the film (one of my favourite 3 movie scenes EVER)…
She was not at all impressed. As she so wisely put it, sometimes you just have to be in the right kind of mood for a particular movie.
And sometimes you have to be in the right kind of mood for a particular meatball, so if you are in the mood for a HAWAIIAN meatball, these could be the ones for you.
We had the wrong kind of pineapple when we made these the first time around, so made the meatball mixture into burgers instead. We bunged the rest of the uncooked mixture in the freezer and took it out a couple of weeks later. It froze really well and the meatballs were GOOD! I liked the sauce too. Thanks Cher!
Oh, and by the way, Cher won an OSCAR for Moonstruck, well I never.
Chrissy, BRING ME THE BIG KNIFE!
Ha ha – I know how you love it too!!
Judging from your picture, these style of meatballs are not intended to use over pasta like Italian meatballs. They’re served as an appetizer at parties usually, kept in a warm crock served with toothpicks. I’m in America so not sure if people in the UK are familiar (sorry if you already knew that!).
Hi SG thanks a million for dropping by and sharing that information about meatballs. In the UK we are definitely NOT aware of how to serve meatballs!
They aren’t really a traditional thing here – well, apart from faggots, which are a kind of meatball which are usually served with mashed potato, peas and gravy.
I guess I just went with the pasta as that’s how I’ve always served meatballs in the past. I very much like the idea of serving them as an appetizer at parties though. Now I just need to throw a party!
