The Faye Dunaway Cocktail

Had these last night to kick off my birthday celebrations. Why am I writing a blog post on my BIRTHDAY? Because Mr R is still asleep and I am over excited, so I am up and sitting by the gas fire waiting for festivities to begin.  We have SNOW in London today for the first time this year, and lots of it.  I can hear kids outside whooping it up and chucking snowballs.  It’s my birthday – whoop!

I love this cocktail and it was the first time Mr R had tried it. He used a word I’ve never heard used in actual conversation. He took a couple of sips and said, “It was quite startling at first.”  Yes, indeed, that’ll be the jalapeño – mmmm.  This is a GOOD cocktail.

I love my Diana Dors “Ooh la la!” Godwin’s glasses…

and I wish Mr R would wake up because I know that one of his gifts is a Diana Dors sweatshirt.  No kidding.

Here’s how I made the Faye Dunaway Cocktails for two.  I made a mango juice from a tub of this…

putting the fruit and a little bit of the liquid it was in through my blender.  It was quite thick, so next time I’ll probably put about half of the juice in with the mango.  Mr R said at one point, “I just got a fruity, chewy bit with a little kick,” so next time I think I’ll blend it for a bit longer to make sure there are no chewy bits.  This made enough mango puree for 4 cocktails I reckon, so maybe we’ll have another tonight.  It is my BIRTHDAY after all.  Here are the measurements for one Faye – with thanks to its creator Jonathan Humphrey of the Drake Hotel in Toronto.

The Faye Dunaway Cocktail

1 1/2 ounces vodka

1 1/4 ounces fresh mango juice

3/4 ounces lime juice

1/2 ounces agave syrup

3 jalapeño wheels (two in the shaker, one for garnish, seeds removed if desired)

2 dashes Regans’ Orange Bitters

METHOD

To make the Faye, simply muddle the ingredients listed here in a cocktail shaker, shake vigorously and strain into a classic coupette. Garnish with the remaining jalapeño slice and prepare for your close-up.

Cheers!

  1. The perfect way to start a birthday! Trix and I made them again last night (in honour of your birthday, obviously!) … and because there was a weeny bit of vodka left in the bottle, which looked too lonely to leave. Just enough for 2 Faye Dunaways. Yum 🙂

  3. Aw, fanx my darling, your report on them will be coming soon. Very pleased to think the craze for the Faye Dunaway is taking over the country, well, the south of it anyhow…
