It’s been a fabulous year at Silver Screen Suppers Towers and I’ve had fun looking through the year’s posts to pick out the highlights. The BEST thing I did, without a doubt, was the Vincent Price Halloween Cookalong.  That created so much fun and hilarity not only at my place, but at other bloggers’ homes all around the world too.  I am very proud to have been at the helm of that particular piece of madness!

My favourite dinner party of 2013 was the Vincent Price Exotic Delights from the Far East Party  This was thrown for my book group and was the event that saw the christening of my sideboard as the “buffeteria” and the start of my obsession with the “ten boy curry”.

My most surprising recipe of 2013?  Andy Clyde’s Baked Ham Casserole – on paper this sounds bonkers but it was absolutely delicious.  Thanks Andy for combining ham, mushrooms, brussels sprouts and sweet potato in your crazy casserole!

My least successful recipe of 2013?  I think this would have to go to Myrna Loy’s Shortbread – very disappointing, sorry Myrna.  I’m going to have to up my game on the shortbread making before the Spring Muswell Hill Horticultural Show.  It looked the part but not enough sugar for the modern palate…

Biggest crowd pleaser of 2013?  Irene Dunne’s Chocolate Vinegar Cake. – everyone LOVES this cake and if I had something particular to say about Irene’s cooking I would include it in the book.  As it is, I just have the recipe which you can find if you click on the link above… Vinegar in a chocolate cake?  It just works.

And here, inspired by Sally over at My Custard Pie is my Culinary Bucket List for 2014.  I’ve limited myself to 5 for each category as I didn’t manage to tick many off last year’s list…

Places I would like to eat

Chicks on Fire – Hercules Street

Scandi Kitchen – Great Titchfield Street

Feng Shang Princess – Floating Chinese Restaurant on Regents Canal

Bubble Dogs in Soho

Market in Camden

Non film-star related things I plan to make – one recipe from each of my favourite blogs:

Glamorous Glutton – maybe the Sweet Dill Pickled Cucumber

Battenburg Belle – that Tartiflette I had round at her place the other day was pretty spectacular…

Dinner is Served 1972 – possibly the Party Cheese Ball – or the Shrimp Sputnik

Caker Cooking –  maybe the Great Canadian Heinz Ketchup Cake

My Custard Pie – I love the look of Keftedes
